In "A Great Leap Forward?", best-selling author John Mauldin, alongside Worth Wray, embarks on an exploratory journey into the heart of China's economic evolution, offering a nuanced analysis of what the future may hold for the world's second-largest economy. This pivotal work unfolds against the backdrop of China's monumental strides from agrarian poverty to becoming a formidable space-age industrial power. Yet, as Mauldin and Wray dissect, this transformation teeters on the brink of either launching into a groundbreaking era of prosperity or descending into an unprecedented debacle. Their narrative, enriched by insights from a constellation of leading China observers, delves into the intricate dynamics of Beijing's central planning, the looming debt crises, and the potential for a seismic shift toward consumer-led growth, challenging readers to reconsider the global ramifications of China's next economic phase. At the core of "A Great Leap Forward?" lies a critical examination of the sustainability of China's growth model, confronting the stark realities of an overburdened banking system, industrial inefficiencies, and the daunting task facing China's reformers. Mauldin and Wray's compelling synthesis of expert analyses transforms complex economic forecasts into accessible wisdom, offering a panoramic view of China's past achievements, present challenges, and the speculative contours of its future. As the narrative unfolds, it becomes increasingly clear that the direction in which China pivots will not only redefine its own destiny but also have profound implications for the global economy and investors worldwide. Through this meticulously researched and engagingly written tome, readers are invited to gaze into the crystal ball of global economic forecasting, where the question of whether China will achieve another great leap forward remains tantalizingly unanswered.

Rather good! - Raoul Pal
China is now Asia’s least equal society with 1% of the population controlling more than a third of the country’s wealth, most of which is tied up in property. Alarmingly, China’s property vacancy rate is estimated to be 22%, suggesting that 49m homes are sitting empty and have been bought by wealthy speculators. That equates to around 30% of all apartments sold in the past decade. How long can the bubble continue given such a large number of empty and expensive apartments?
